Bible Passage: Exodus 20:1-17, Psalm 19
I remember when I was young standing on the sidewalk with a little friend, watching the traffic and wondering how all those cars avoided running into each other. All we could see was the road and the cars—we had no idea of the concepts of driving on the right side, stop signs, signals, etc.
Rules exist for a reason, don’t they. As an adult, I recognize how necessary some rules are—such as the one about keeping to the right side of the road. It’s pretty obvious.
Sometimes the reason for particular rules are not so obvious. I remember using the word “Why?” a lot as a kid…
Sometimes we don’t immediately get the “why” of things. “Because God said so” should be enough for us, but frequently it’s not. To our detriment and God’s disappointment. Let’s visit the healthy side of rules. Why they are good for us, why we need them, and how to rejoice that we have them.
