SUMMARY:GriefShare Grief Support Group
DESCRIPTION:No matter what the circumstances\, grief is a painful\, confusing process. A GriefShare group is a safe\, welcoming place where people understand the difficult emotions of grief. At this 13-week support group program\, you’ll discover what to expect in the days ahead and what’s “normal” in grief. Since there are no neat\, orderly stages of grief\, you’ll learn helpful ways of coping with grief\, in all its unpredictability—and gain solid support each step of the way. \n\n\n\nAt each weekly meeting\, you will view a video featuring respected counselors\, pastors\, and healthcare professionals on grief-related topics\, plus you’ll hear relatable personal stories of grief. After that is a small-group discussion to allow people time to talk\, share support\, and personally apply what they learned on the video. Everyone will receive a book to take home filled with valuable exercises for navigating their personal grieving process. \n\n\n\nTopics include how to manage grief-related emotions such as loneliness\, anxiety\, sadness\, anger\, and regret; how to cope with the changes in your life and relationships; and how to recognize what’s normal in grief and what to do if you feel stuck or hopeless. \n\n\n\nGriefShare group participants have repeatedly shared that they feel comforted and encouraged by being in a place where people truly understand what they’re going through. And they feel a sense of relief when they’re given guidance and tips on how to deal with the daily challenges. \n\n\n\nYour bereavement experience may be recent or not so recent. No matter how long it’s been\, this is an opportunity to be around people who understand what you are feeling. \n\n\n\nIf you have experienced the death of a family member or friend\, you are invited to attend. SUMMARY:Loss of Spouse GriefShare Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Losing a spouse is like losing a part of yourself \n\n\n\nYour husband or wife was your partner. Your confidante. Your best friend. The person you turned to in good times and bad. You faced the world side by side\, and now your spouse is gone. You wonder how it’s possible to go on. \n\n\n\nAt GriefShare\, we understand what you’re going through and want to assure you that you’re not alone. The complex emotions you’re experiencing are common\, and even to be expected.  \n\n\n\nGrief is a journey\, and whether you’re just beginning or have been walking this path for a while\, these suggestions can help:  \n\n\n\nBe patient with yourself\n\n\n\nAre you experiencing overwhelming emotions? Exhausted and in a mental fog? Feel like you’re taking one step forward and two steps back? Losing a spouse affects all aspects of your life\, so it’s important to take things one day at a time\, at your own pace. \n\n\n\n“One of the big challenges with grief is you don’t know how long you will be on the journey—or even where it will take you. … Grief will affect you in very different ways. Because everyone’s grief is unique.”  \n\n\n\nPam Lundell\, radio host; her husband died suddenly\, leaving her a single mom \n\n\n\nBe honest about what you need\n\n\n\nYou didn’t just lose your spouse. You also lost the person who paid the bills\, the gardener\, the one who cooked the meals. Letting people around you provide assistance will help ease the burden.  \n\n\n\n“People who say\, ‘Is there anything I can do?’ are genuinely offering. Most don’t know what it’s like to grieve and don’t know what you need\, so be very specific about your request.”  \n\n\n\nDr. Robert DeVries\, author; his wife of 28 years died of cancer \n\n\n\nReach out in your loneliness\n\n\n\nAfter losing a spouse\, the temptation to isolate in your grief is understandable; it’s often easier to hide away rather than force a public smile. However\, reaching out to supportive\, uplifting people is essential for grieving in a healthy way and finding relief.  \n\n\n\n“When you‘re going through loneliness\, reach out to family members and friends. You might go to a favorite place that you frequented with your spouse\, or you may try a new place to establish new traditions.”  \n\n\n\nDr. Fredrica Brooks-Davis\, counselor; her husband died 3 months after they were married \n\n\n\nReflect on who you are now\n\n\n\nLosing a spouse means losing a huge part of your identity: Instead of being part of a couple\, you’re now single\, and this changes how you relate in the world. As painful as this is\, it’s important to think through who you are without your spouse.  \n\n\n\n“For 40 years I saw myself as a husband. That’s now taken away. Sometimes it helps to  reflect on\, Who am I? Where am I going with my life? How would I describe myself to somebody else?”  \n\n\n\nThe late H. Norman Wright\, grief and trauma expert; his wife died from brain cancer
