Bart is well known around here. He always needs something. He makes us uncomfortable with his neediness—we pretend we don’t see him, standing on the street corner with his cardboard sign. Sometimes he slips into the back of our sanctuary but we don’t really like to sit next to him because he is different. It’s easier to pretend he doesn’t exist than to figure out what to do with him.
But how does HE feel? Alone. Invisible? Left out? His disability is not HIS fault, is it? And yet it has created a barrier between him and everyone else.
This morning we are going to watch Bart closeup—we all know who he is, but we are going to actually THINK about him this morning, and watch Jesus at work.
